I am a lifelong writer and artist. Teaching is my chosen profession. Over the past 10 years I have taught in elementary and junior high schools in the mainstream and special education classrooms. Currently I am an English Language Arts consultant for the Edmonton Catholic School District. I specialize in supporting teachers with language arts instruction in grades one through nine.
My loves are reading and writing. I enjoy leading professional development with other educators and mentoring in their classrooms. I have a special knack for creating educational support documents that assist with planning in language arts.
I love speaking in front of large groups and treasure the many relationships that I have established over the last four years as a district consultant.
Professional learning is very important to me. I am currently working towards a Master's Degree in Elementary Language Arts. Last July, I had the opportunity to participate in the Universal Design for Learning Institute at Harvard University.
I am part of a larger professional learning community that consists of my blog the Lit Maven. participating in several Nings (Classroom 2.0, NCTE, Making Curriculum Pop and Triiibes) and Edchats on Twitter.
Personally, I am a cancer survivor of 12 years, a wife and a mother to two (8 years old and 6 years old). I treasure time with my family and exploring my potential as a fiction writer for children and a nonfiction writer for adults.
